One of my favorite passages of
scripture is Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8. It starts with these words:
"For everything these is a season, and a time for every
matter under heaven..." It's a great reminder that life has an ebb and flow. There are times to be active and times to be quiet. Ther are seasons of joy and happiness and seasons of sorrow. The church and most of us are entering the Season of Summer. It's a time when things slow down a bit. Sunday School will take a break. Committees will (for the most part) stop meeting. Most of us will take some time away. This is a good |
thing. We need the seasons to change so that we can rest and
recharge our batteries. It's important for us to remember that while we are taking a break from our regular routine, not to take a break from our relationship with God. I would suggest that we use this less hectic season to find new ways to strengthen our faith and expand our journey. Instead of reading the latest novel on the New York Times Top 10 List, how about reading C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters" or "The Great Divorce"? There are books by Richard Foster; "Celebration of Discipline" and Dietrich Bonhoffer ... personally I |
love "Life Together". Henri J.M. Nowen has
written wonderful books including "The Wounded
Healer". This is not an exhaustive list. There are many possibilities. None of the books I've suggested are very lengthy. They are all wonderful and offer grat insights into our relationship with God and one another. Feel free top stop by to discuss these or other books. Ma this Season of Summer be a time of rest and rejuvenation. May God's peace and grace be with you and may you find new ways of living with God and one another. Shalom,
Pastor Alice Ann
