From the Pastor's Desk ~ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (John 1:1-5 NRSV)
Without any doubt these are my most favorite words in all the Scriptures. I have lots of favorites, but these words top them all. They are the most majestic, heartfelt and hopeful of any, at least to me. It's why I always save this passage for myself to read during our Service of Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve. It just wouldn't be Christmas if we hadn't done Lessons and Carols and I didn't read John 1:1-14.I'm sure that each of you have favorite passages and we could endlessly debate which is the most important. I can envision a lengthy and heated discussion. What a wonderful way to share an important part of our faith. Can you imagine talking with anyone about which passages of Scripture mean the most to you? If you can imagine such a moment, then let me offer you the opportunity. Starting January 16, 2007 (that's a Tuesday) I'll be in the Parlor from 10:30 to 11:30 with my Bible. I may even bring several different translations of Bibles. I'll be there every Tuesday morning (with minor exceptions). I invite you to come and talk about and study this wonderful Library with me. If you can't imagine sharing a favorite passage of scripture with someone, come anyway and let me (and maybe others) share with you. Perhaps along the way you will find a passage you want to share. I believe it is time for me to be more deliberate in creating ways for folks to study the Bible together. This is one small start. Please pray with me that we follow God's leading and direction and that this study will be what God wants it to be. I am fully convinced that the Holy Spirit will take our most meager efforts and use them for the good of the Kingdom. Let's do this together and see what God will do with us. May the New Year be full of God's blessings and grace for each of you, Pastor Alice Ann
